Eva Gore-Booth

Sligo-born of the Lissadell Gore-Booths; sister of Constance Markievicz, and the subject with her of Yeats's In Memory of Eva Gore-Booth and Con Markiewicz. She left Ireland in 1897 and spent her life in Manchester with Esther Roper, her partner of thirty years, organising women trade unionists and campaigning for suffrage. A pacifist during the First World War. Her poetry — mystical, classical, drawing on Celtic material and increasingly on same-sex love — has been strongly reclaimed by queer and feminist scholarship.
