Adapted the assonantal music of Irish-language verse into English, then in his late satirical work turned savagely on clerical Ireland — censorship, institutions, sexual repression. Mnemosyne Lay in Dust (1966) draws on his own psychiatric confinement. His library of c. 5,000 volumes was transferred by Poetry Ireland to UCD Special Collections — see organisations.
