Ciaran Carson

Belfast poet, novelist, translator and traditional flute player, raised as an Irish speaker in an English-speaking city. The Irish for No and Belfast Confetti invented a long, digressive, streetwise line adequate to the Troubles. Translated The Táin, Dante's Inferno and Rimbaud, and wrote a classic book on traditional music, Last Night's Fun. Won the very first T. S. Eliot Prize, 1993, for First Language, and the Forward Prize for Best Collection, 2003, for Breaking News.
