Máire Mhac an tSaoi

Scholar, diplomat and poet; daughter of a government minister, wife of Conor Cruise O'Brien. Her Ceathrúintí Mháire Ní Ógáin (1956) — a sequence about a woman's affair with a married man, in traditional metres — was scandalous and remains widely anthologised.
