Pat Ingoldsby
Born in Malahide, Co. Dublin; children's television presenter, playwright, short-story writer and newspaper columnist. From the mid-1990s he withdrew entirely from the mass media and became a man who sold his own self-published poems from a pitch on Westmoreland Street or College Green in Dublin. Funny, plain, unclassifiable and genuinely popular. The documentary The Peculiar Sensation of Being Pat Ingoldsby (2022) brought him back to public attention. Died aged 82 at a nursing home in Clontarf; the President led the tributes, and a celebration of his life was held in Dublin on 6 March 2025.
