Richard Murphy
Mayo-born of an Anglo-Irish colonial family; sailed a Galway hooker out of Cleggan and wrote the great sea-narrative The Battle of Aughrim and Sailing to an Island. His memoir The Kick (2002) is candid about his marriage and about his relationships with men, including a period in Sri Lanka; he is one of the few of his generation to have written openly about it.
