Seán Ó Ríordáin

Cork poet whose Eireaball Spideoige (1952) broke the tradition open: introspective, tormented, formally experimental, obsessed with sincerity and with the tuberculosis that shadowed his whole adult life. Its prefatory essay is a manifesto for poetry in Irish. He won an Oireachtas award in 1943 for his poem Leigheas.
