The experimental and neo-modernist line
A counter-tradition descending from MacGreevy, Coffey and Devlin rather than from Kavanagh or Heaney, and largely ignored by mainstream Irish anthologies. Its home has been the small press — New Writers' Press, hardPressed Poetry, Wild Honey Press — and the SoundEye festival in Cork.
Trevor Joyce works with procedural constraint and reworkings of medieval Irish material; Maurice Scully spent twenty-five years on a single serial project. A directory assembled from prize lists would miss all of it.
