Geoffrey Squires
Born in Derry, grew up in Co. Donegal; read English at Cambridge and took a PhD at Edinburgh in 1970. Lived and worked in Iran (a long spell in the 1970s), France and the United States, and translates from French and Persian. Later ran the education department at the University of Hull; now retired and living in Hull. Minimalist, spatially arranged sequences; his late project Irish Poetry 600–1200 returns the experimental line to the early Irish material.
